Johan Snyman studied at the Universities of Stellenbosch, UNISA, and UCT, obtaining a doctorate at UCT in December 1994 on the thesis entitled “The Development of Leading Indicators for the South African Building Industry Using Qualitative and Quantitative Data”.
He spent eight years (1976-1983) at the Bureau for Economic Research, University of Stellenbosch and was responsible for the BER Building Cost Index and the BER Building Survey. In 1984 he established Medium-Term Forecasting Associates together with his partner Prof Wilsey Kilian.
Johan Snyman advises companies involved in the Building Industry on business cycle developments. He also advises quantity surveyors on trends in building costs.
In March 1995 he was awarded the “Merit Award for Excellence” by the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors.
He is married to Carol, his American wife, and they reside on a small wine farm near Stellenbosch with their two Jack Russells called Jonty & Lulu.
